Mane’s Late Strike Earns Liverpool Vital Away Win Vs Everton

Sadio Mane's late strike secured a 1-0 away win for Liverpool against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Monday night.

The win lifts Liverpool to second in the league table, and six points adrift of leaders Chelsea while Everton are ninth on 23 points.

The game kicked off with Everton starting the stronger but failed to create any meaningful goal scoring opportunity.

Liverpool gradually eased their way into the game but just like Everton did not create any serious attempt on goal.

It wasn't until the 21st minute before the first decent chance was created following a dangerous low cross from Aaron Lennon but Ragnar Klavan made a timely block to prevent Romelu Lukaku from connecting with the ball.

Two minutes later Rose Barkley hit a low shot from outside the area which went just wide off the target.

Georginio Wijnaldum had Liverpool's first attempt on target on 31 minutes but his tame effort was easily dealt with by Maarten Stekelenburg.

Liverpool had a good chance to tale the lead in the 37th minute after a brilliant build up play by the Reds but Divock Origi couldn't direct Nathaniel Clyne's cross towards goal.

In the 44th minute Ramiro Funes Mori  went close to giving Everton the lead but headed wide from a corner.

Prior to the start of the second half Everton were forced to a change with Gareth Barry replacing James McCarthy who went off injured.

In the 50th minute Roberto Firmino was put through on goal after brushing off a challenge from an Everton defender but couldn't beat Stekelenburg from close range.

Everton were forced into another change on 64 minutes as Stekelenburg went off for second choice keeper Joel Robles following a collision with Leighton Baines.

With 15 minutes left Ashley Williams almost gave Everton the lead bit his header from a free kick was too weak to bother Simon Mignolet.

Liverpool went inches close to taking the lead in the 80th minute through Firmino but his goal bound strike from a corner was superbly parried away by Robles.

In the 94th minute Sadio Mane gave Liverpool a deserved lead reacting quickest to Daniel Sturbridge effort which came off the post.

And in the 97th minute Firmino almost doubled Liverpool's lead but Seamus Coleman cleared off the line.
