Beach Soccer AFCON: How Super Sand Eagles Have Fared So Far

The Super Sand Eagles will hope to pick their third title as the eight edition of the Beach Soccer AFCON kicks off today (Tuesday) at the Eko Atlantic, Lagos, Nigeria.
The Sand Eagles coached by Adamu Ejoor, are in the Group A along with Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire and Egypt.

Runners-up: Durban 2006 Beach Soccer AFCON
Nigeria Super Sand Eagles featured in the maiden edition of the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations held in Durban, South Africa in 2016.
The team made it all the way to the final but lost 5-3 to Cameroon
Both the Super Sand Eagles and Cameroon moved on to play in the 2006 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Winners: Durban 2007 Beach Soccer AFCON

At the 2007 edition of the Beach Soccer AFCON, the Super Sand Eagles emerged champions for the first time.
After topping a Group B that had Cameroon, Senegal and Egypt, the team overcame South Africa in the semi-finals.
In the final, the Super Sand Eagles edged Senegal 6-5 to claim the title. 
For making it to the final, the Super Sand Eagles qualified for the 2007 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Group Stage: Durban 2008 Beach Soccer AFCON
The 2008 edition was a forgettable one for the Super Sand Eagles as they crashed out in the group stage.
Drawn in Group B along with Ghana, Cameroon and Cape Verde, the Super Sand Eagles finished third, hence bowing out of the tournament.
The final of the 2008 Beach Soccer AFCON was won by Senegal who beat Cameroon 12-6.
Winners: Durban 2009 Beach Soccer AFCON
The Super Sand Eagles put the disappointment of the 2008 edition behind and emerged champions in the 2009, in Durban, South Africa.
The Super Sand Eagles Cote d'Ivoire 7-4 in the final.
And as reward for making it to the final, the Super Sand Eagles, along with Cote d'Ivoire, represented Africa at the 2009 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup hosted by the United Arab Emirates.
Runners-up: Casablanca 2011 Beach Soccer AFCON
For the second time, the Super Sand Eagles finished as runners-up at the Beach Soccer AFCON after losing to Senegal in the final of the 2011 edition staged in Casablanca, Morocco.
Senegal triumphed 7-4 to claim their second African title.
The 2011 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Italy saw both Senegal and the Super Sand Eagles flyingvAfrica's flag at the global showpiece.
4th Place Finish: El Jadida 2013 Beach Soccer AFCON
After failing to make it to the final of the 2013 tournament in El Jadida, Morocco, the Super Sand Eagles lost 7-2 to the hosts in the third place match.
The final was won by Senegal following their 4-1 win against Cote d'Ivoire.
3rd Place Finish: Roche Caiman 2015 Beach Soccer AFCON
Just like in the 2013 edition, the Super Sand Eagles fell in the semi-finals of the 2015 Beach Soccer AFCON.
But they beat Cote d'Ivoire 9-1 in their Third Place match.
And in the final, Madagascar narrowly beat Senegal 2-1 on penalty shootout after regulation time ended 1-1.
